A little bit about Tram Horses
The tram horses employed for pulling the trams along Douglas Bay promenade complete no more than three return journeys each day and, as the trams move on roller bearings, the horse only has to trot along in front, giving just the occasional pull to keep the trams moving. Most of the horses are home bred, heavy horses. There are usually about 22 horses employed. When they reach retirement age they now live out their lives at The Home of Rest for Horses here in The IOM.
