John Feltham travelled extensively through the Isle of Man during 1797 and 1798 and wrote of his observations and findings to his friend Dr. Hawes. These letters were collected and published in a volume dedicated to the Duke of Athol.
The letters provided a unique insight into the state of the Island and it's people at this time. The authors acute observations cover everything from politics to the incedental details of the lives of the common people.
